Frequently Asked Questions
How do I set up Kotu on my device?
Setting up Kotu is quick and secure:
- Download Kotu from the Apple App Store.
- When opening the app for the first time, you will be prompted to grant Family Controls (Screen Time) permissions. Tap "Allow".
- Verify the connection using your Face ID, Touch ID, or device passcode.
- Once verified, you can immediately begin selecting apps to restrict and setting up blocking schedules.
Does Kotu collect or monitor my child's messages or browser history?
No, absolute privacy is our core principle. Kotu relies on Apple’s native Family Controls framework. All app blocking, time tracking, and schedule evaluations are processed strictly on your device.
We do not collect, view, store, or transmit your child's text messages, emails, photos, contacts, call history, or web browsing logs. For details, please consult our Privacy Policy.
Can my child bypass or delete Kotu to avoid app blocks?
If you set up Kotu under an Apple iCloud Family Sharing organization and authorize the app using parental credentials, iOS prevents the child from deleting the application or turning off Screen Time permissions without the parental passcode.
To ensure maximum security, make sure Kotu is authorized under the child's Apple ID through Family Controls, and protect your parental device passcode.
How do I cancel or manage my premium subscription?
All in-app subscription payments and renewals for Kotu are managed securely by Apple:
- Open the Settings app on your iOS device.
- Tap your name/profile picture at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select Kotu from the active list.
- Tap Cancel Subscription (if you don't see it, it is already canceled and will not renew).
Why is a blocked app still accessible on the device?
If app restrictions fail to apply, try these troubleshooting steps:
- Ensure the Kotu background permission is active. Go to Settings > Kotu and verify Screen Time permissions are granted.
- Check that the device time is set automatically. Manual date changes can confuse scheduling modules.
- Perform a quick device restart. This forces iOS to re-evaluate system-level Family Controls block lists.
